Upholstered chairs and banquette seating in a restaurant

Upholstery fabric for high-traffic spaces

A restaurant or lobby seat is used dozens of times a day. The fabric has to withstand wear, clean easily and not lose its look.

The first indicator is abrasion resistance. Manufacturers usually give it in cycles, from the Martindale test. Ask for the figure and consult the space's designer about what suits your use.

Second, stains. Some fabrics have a finish that repels liquids. Ask how it affects the feel and how it is cleaned, because a fabric that repels wine but feels like plastic is not always a good idea.

Third, fire. In public spaces certified performance may be required not only for the fabric but for the whole assembly, which includes the foam. Ask from the start.

Last, think about how it will be cleaned. If seats are cleaned often, look at removable covers or a fabric that allows repeated cleaning.

We take care of cleaning upholstery fabrics ourselves, and of making bespoke furniture.
